(TV Appearance) Detecting Household Toxins

August 4, 2018

I was so excited to be a guest on Good Day Charlotte, where I got to talk about how to find some common household toxins, as well as how EASY it can be to DIY your own cleaning products.

Why is that so important?

Because the EPA has called indoor air pollution “the nation’s #1 environmental health problem.” Indoor air can be several, if not dozens of times more polluted than outdoor air.

One of the reasons for this is that the normal household typically has multiple cleaning products, and these can off-gas into the air even when they’re not being used.

And many of the chemicals are linked to respiratory issues and brain and nervous system toxicity.

A recent study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Clinical Care Medicine has also found that women who regularly used cleaning sprays at home or who worked as professional cleaners, have a risk to respiratory health; both in the short-term risk of asthma, but also to long-term risk of decline in lung function.

So what can you do?

A lot! That’s the good news. It’s very simple to make your own cleaning products, and best of all – the ingredients are probably in your kitchen right now!

DIY Toilet Bowl Cleaner & Carpet Stain Remover

I use both of these ingredients for both a toilet bowl cleaner and a carpet stain remover, believe it or not! The foaming action of these two ingredients has a lot of lifting power, so it’s a great cleaner and stain-lifter.

Watch the video above to watch them both in action as I make them live on TV. I basically just eyeball the amounts. Super easy!
